  1. ملخص: صدر حديثاً كتاب ( الجامعات في الوطن العربي : الوضع الراهن ومتطلبات الألفية الثالثة ) عن شركة المعرفة الشقيقية لمركز الخليج للأبحاث, للمؤلف الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد علي أحمد الخطيب الأستاذ بكلية العلوم في جامعة سوهاج ـ جمهورية مصر العربية , ويتناول هذا الكتاب واقع الجامعات العربية وكيفية تطويرها بما يتلائم مع احتياجات الالفية الثالثة, ويضم هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه أربعة فصول رئيسية هي:
    ــ الفصل الأول: ملامح الوضع الراهن.. ويرصد من خلاله نشأة الجامعات و ملامح المؤسسة الجامعية, والعملية التعليمية, والبحث العلمي, التقانة, والجودة النوعية.
    ـ الفصل الثاني: الفجوة الاستراتيجية .. ويرصد من خلاله المضمون, والأبعاد, وأنواع الفجوة وعناصرها.
    الفصل الثالث: أسباب الفجوة.. ويتتبع من خلاله التحديات العالمية, تخطيط العمليات الجامعية, الانفاق والاستثمار, متطلبات مجتمع المعرفة , إدارة الجودة الشاملة, والحرية الأكاديمية واستقلالية المؤسسة الجامعية.
    ــ الفصل الخامس: يتناول آليات التطوير ومتطلبات الألفية الثالثة.
    ــ الخاتمة والتوصيات والرؤية.
    ويستمد الكتاب أهميته من رؤية المؤلف الذي يعمل أستاذاً في تخصص علم النبات في كلية العلوم بجامعة سوهاج, وأستاذاً لعلم البيئة بالجامعة نفسها إلى جانب قيامه بأعمال المراجعة والتطوير في مجال ضمان الجودة بمؤسسات التعليم العالي وهو أحد قلائل من المتخصصين في مجال الجودة والتطوير و له أكثر من 40 بحثاً علمياً في مجال التخصص منشورة في دوريات مصرية وعالمية محكمة, وله مؤلفات عديدة في علم النبات, وتطوير التعليم وتفعيل منظومة الجودة. ويتناول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب واقع الجامعات العربية ووضعها مقارنة بمثيلاتها في دول العالم, وهو يرى أن دور الجامعة يعد ركيزة أساسية في نهوض المجتمع, وأنه لا تنمية حقيقية بدون الاهتمام بالمجتمع المعرفي وتوظيف العلوم والمعارف والتكنولوجيا الحديثة في خدمة التنمية الشاملة وعلى تطوير أدوات القياس والجودة .
    ويرى المؤلف أن تطبيق وممارسة شروط الجودة أصبح أمراً حتمياً لإحداث القدرة التنافسية والتحدي من أجل استمرار البقاء للمؤسسات التعليمية, وأن الاهتمام بضبط الجودة في مؤسسات التعليم بصفة عامة والتعليم العالي بصفة خاصة نبع من النظر إلى التعليم باعتباره سلعة ولابد له من المنافسة كالسلع الأخرى, وأن التعليم يسعى إلى ارضاء طالبي هذه السلعة الأمر الذى أدى إلى طرح مسألة مهمة وهي ضرورة تبني الجودة داخل المؤسسات التعليمية باعتبارها بطاقة تأكيد على خوض غمار التنفسية, ومعايير هذه الجودة تفرض وجود آليات جديدة , كما أن تطبيقها يتطلب بذل المزيد من الجهود من أجل الوصول إلى منهج إدارة الجودة الشاملة وفقاً للمعايير الصادرة عن المنظمة الدولية للمواصفات ( ايزو) منذ عام 1987م, والالتزام بما تم إعلانه من الهيئات المعنية لضمان جودة التعليم والاعتماد في البلدان المختلفة .
    ويطرح المؤلف اشكاليات العولمة, ودور التخطيط العلمي للمناهج والبرامج التعليمية, وقدرة البحث العلمي على التوأمة مع متطلبات الصناعة واقتصاديات السوق, وطرح اشكالية الفجوة وأسبابها وكيفية تجاوزها, ورسم استراتيجية مكتملة الأبعاد والأطر والمعالم لتطوير مؤسسات التعليم العربية , خاصة الجامعات ومؤسسات التعليم العالي .
    هذا الكتاب يغوص في واقع التعليم الجامعي في الوطن العربي ويضع يده على مواطن القصور والخلل, يقدم العلاج للنهوض واللحاق بركب التعليم الحديث المتطور وفقاً لمتطلبات الألفية الثالثة وبما يناسب مبدأ التنافسية وتلبية احتياجات سوق العمل من أجل ألا تكون المناهج التعليمية في واد واحتياجات سوق العمل في وادي أخر, وناقش دور كل مفردة من مفردات العملية التعليمية ورصد التحديات التي تواجهها ومن ثم كيفية مواجهتها وتجاوزها, ويظل لهذا الكتاب أهمية كبيرة لأساتذة الجامعات, وصانعي قرار تطوير المؤسسات التعليمية والجامعات , والمسئولين والمعنيين بالتنمية المستدامة في الوطن العربي , ومطوري المناهج والبرامج التعليمية, ولطلاب الدراسات العليا, وطلاب الجامعات.
