ملخص: في عام 1938، طاف الكاتب والمصور الاسترالي البحار ألن فيليرز في الخليج العربي على متن مراكب الدهو الشراعية الكويتية. وقد تبع في رحلته التي استغرقت سنة كاملة الطرق التجارية ذاتها التي كان يطرقها البحارة العرب خلال القرون الغابرة، حتى بلغ المستقر الذي كان يقصده الملاحون، ألا وهو الكويت. وقد جرى توثيق رحلات فيليرز في كتابه أبناء السندباد ويومياته التي لم تُـنـشَـر سابقاً، فضلاً عن صوره وأفلامه، وجميعها تتضمن دراسات ومشاهدات مستفيضة للناس وطرائق معيشتهم وسياساتهم وحكوماتهم، والحكم الإمبريالي والطرق التجارية القديمة والطرق الإمبراطورية وثقافات المنطقة. وعلاوة على القيمة الاثنوغرافية التي ينطوي عليها توثيق فيليزر، فهو ينطوي على قصة رحلة بحرية أيضاً. لا تقتصر هذه الرحلة على وصف مجموعة مثيرة وشيقة من الأشخاص والأماكن، بل إنها تبين بما فيها من معلومات وأوصاف جغرافية وتاريخية وثقافية وسياسية، مكانة فيليرز المتميزة، وبالتالي، أهميته بوصفه كاتباً يجري تصنيفه ضمن كُتّاب أدب الرحلات.
